Fashion Magazine Italian Vogue’s “Black Girl” Issue
One of my favorite fashion photographers Steven Meisel has spawned the brilliant yet radical idea of publishing an issue of Italian Vogue featuring all black models: Iman, Ms. Campbell, Tyra Banks, Jourdan Dunn, Ms. Kebede, Ms. Wek, Pat Cleveland, Karen Alexander and even the “full figured” Toccara Jones. Celebrity makeup artist Pat McGrath (a black woman) did all the makeup for the shoot.
When asked why he thinks black girls have been “dodged & burned” from the fashion runway, Meisel says the designers, magazine editors and advertisers think that “con$umers will re$ist the product”. Notice my replacement of the letter “s” with dollar signs.

It is interesting that it is Italian Vogue that has taken this bold initiative yet 30 percent of the American population is non-white.
