Inspired by the work of Mickalene Thomas (who currently has a solo show at the Brooklyn Museum on view through January 20th), “The Black Female Body” roundtable will discuss how the Black female body has been represented in visual culture and its affect on Black women today.

Speakers include Deborah Willis, Isolde Brielmaier, Carla Williams and Tisa Bryant.

Next week Deborah Willis will host Black Portraiture[s]: The Black Body in the West, a conference in Paris from January 17 – 20, 2013 which I will be attending. Stay tuned to Dodge & Burn for notes from the conference.
