I Heart JPG Magazine

JPG Magazine Issue 16
From the JPG Magazine website:

“JPG Magazine is for people who love imagemaking without attitude. It’s about the kind of photography you get when you love the moment more than the camera. It’s for photographers who, like us, have found themselves online, sharing their work, and would like to see that work in print.”

Despite all its glory, finding unique and quality photography in the Flickr community is like trying to navigate the crowds in search of the cafeteria in Ikea’s new Brooklyn location – nearly impossible!

The JPG Magazine website serves many purposes: as a marketing tool for the JPG magazine and as a social environment for “brave new” photographers that can create a member page and upload their photos.

Every issue of the print magazine features themes. Photographers can submit their photos FREE! online for consideration. Photos are judged by fellow members and site users.

Granted, not all submissions would garner the attention of a photo editor – there are certainly many “amateur” photos. Although I give JPG Magazine props for creating an online community where aspiring photographers and those who just love this art form can share their work with like-minded folks and possibly be recognized/awarded by being published.

It certainly beats scouring the web for photography competitions that seem to be a waste of money and always have the same (type of) winners.

No discrimination for submissions based on years of experience and/or training, location, photography equipment, professional status, etc… this makes JPG Magazine a venue that truly honors diversity in photography!

I’ve just recently created a member page for myself and will soon begin to upload photos… see you there.
