“Hard To Place” Show Opening + Photobook Launch

Please join me tomorrow, Friday, February 5th from 7 – 10pm for the opening of Hard To Place, a solo show curated by Janna Dyk at Booklyn Art Space. The address is 37 Greenpoint Ave, 4th FL Suite E4G, Brooklyn, NY 11222 and the best way to get there by subway is the G train to Greenpoint Ave.
Hard to Place traces the journey of a Nigerian and Irish orphan boy coming up through the British social services system of 1960s/70s London. A “half-cast(e)” child in 1960s and ‘70s England, Joseph was considered “hard to place” amongst the mostly white, adoptive families. Consequently, Joseph was placed “in care” at eight different times from age 3 to 17.
Combining confidential government documentation, archival photographs, personal possessions and documentary images, this series reveals the social and moral forces that denied Joseph his birthright to a family while imagining an alternate (albeit uncertain) narrative.
