Solange’s “A Seat at the Table” Album Art Book

Solange’s “A Seat at the Table” Album Art Book

Admittedly I have not listened to all of Solange’s 2016 release A Seat at the Table, but that didn’t stop me from wanting to get my hands on a copy of the art book featuring design by the artist herself and images by Spanish photographer Carlotta Guerrero.

Guerrero is also credited with co-art directing the videos for Solange’s “Cranes in the Sky” and “Don’t Touch My Hair” tracks from the album. According to Guerrero’s interview with i-D, Solange discovered her via Instagram. The muted earth tones of Guerrero’s hazy photographs instantly appealed to my aesthetic sensibilities.

I would call Guerrero’s and Solange’s style “quirky soul”. Although I can’t quite figure out the role of the black male figures (many without pants?) in these images – they seem decorative, almost as accessories to Solange and her flock of sirens. Solange of course is beautiful in every frame but seriously, check out that still life image below!

Copies of the A Seat at the Table art book are available via Solange’s website for the odd price of $51.98.
